Makueni woman fined Sh 15,000 for sending abusive and threatening message

A Makueni court has fined a woman Sh 15,000 or in default serve three months imprisonment for sending a threatening message to another woman.

The accused Caroline Musango who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Mellan Achieng pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court heard that on July 2, 2015, the accused used her mobile phone and sent offensive, abusive and threatening message to Catherine Nyamai.

The complainant found the message offensive and reported the matter to Kathonzweni police station who summoned Musango and charged her accordingly.

In mitigation, the accused pleaded for mercy saying at the time of the exchange there was an intense argument and was overwhelmed by emotion thus the offensive text.

Musango realized her mistake and was remorseful.
While giving her judgment, the magistrate observed that this was improper use of a licensed telecommunication system hence the fine to be a deterrent to others.
