Day 9 | 16 ideas to end violence against women | What's yours?
What are daily actions?
From 25 Nov to 10 Dec, Take Back The Tech! invites you to take one action per day to end violence against women. Each daily action explores an issue of violence against women and its interconnection with communication rights, and approaches different communication platforms - online and off - in creative and tactical ways.Take Back The Tech! End violence against women.
What does it take to end violence against women?
Sometimes it takes a large action: ratifying a convention, doing large-scale documentation and research, making a change in law, committing through policy and budgetary allocations, organising a huge protest and rally, supporting more gender-aware decision-makers in the media and more.
Most of the time, it takes small gestures: in everyday actions, everyday words, everyday interactions with the women and men around us, and within ourselves. How are we transforming power relations, changing the words that we use, the gazes that we assume, and the ideas that we transmit?
And sometimes, it might take just that one unlikely, but great and timely idea to start changing things.
Join in the global brainstorm. What's your idea for ending violence against women?

Here's 6 ideas to get you started:
- Stop judging people by what they wear, especially by women.
- Arm everyone with smart, witty responses that can be used whenever someone makes a sexist remark or joke
- Teach doctors to say something other than "It's a boy/girl!" the moment a baby is born
- Create harassment-free zones in public streets. Give repeated harassers "red cards" and ban them from walking down certain streets for a period of time.
- Make police officers go through gender-awareness tests as part of their qualification
- Get every blogger in the world to post their commitment against violence against women on 25 Nov.
- Have games at school that makes players think critically about violence against women.
- Add your own!
Take Back The Tech! Keep the ideas flowing. Think of ways to end violence against women.
We'll publish all the ideas on the site as we come across or receive them, and turn some of them into real actions for next year's campaign!

Ideas that've been shared on Facebook notes
That I'm tagged in :)
9. All politicians to pass gender sensitization course (mc)
10. Teach your children well! (pi)
11. Shoe power! From now on all shoes worn by women (from high heeled slingbacks to Converse sneakers) to be made with small little knives in the toe or heel; and teach girls (from Kindergaarten onwards) how to use them effectively ;-) (maya)
12. Scientific education on sex, sexual health, sexual morality, and sexual politics at all levels. Stop consigning boys and girls, men and women to ignorance and mystical, delusional stupor about sex, love, and sexual relationship. (erik)
13. Ensure reproductive health rights so that sane rational couples can choose to have as many children as they want or to limit their children at a number that they can manage or take care of. Rapists are pathological cases produced by messed up dysfunctional families. (erik)
14. Most women will become either mothers or insane mothers. Rapists have thoroughly fucked up, messed up relationship with their mothers. So to decrease the number of rapists, the number of insane women becoming mothers should be decreased. How? Return to number 12 (erik)
15. Fascist, authoritarian, insane fathers and mothers, who appear to be very common in the Philippines and elsewhere, will likely produce fascist sons and daughters. A mother is role model for her daughter who will become a mother. She's role model for her son on how women should be treated. If the mother is abused or in an abusive relationship, then her son may grow up treating women abusively. Her daughter may grow up seeking out men who will abuse them. So, to reduce the number of rapists, fascism must be defeated culturally and politically. How? Return to number 12. (erik)
16. Authoritarian families tend to become abusive and produce rapists and authoritarian society. Authoritarian families are produced by .... taraaannn, my favorite topic, the fascist Catholic Church (at least in the Philippines) that asks its faithfuls to deny themselves and their children freedom. So this ancient relic of patriarchy and superstition should be defeated, relegated ineffective, or at least transformed if you still like the idea of going to Church (erik).
17. Decriminalize or remove the stigma on women (and men) that choose to become prostitutes. It's just a job. Prostitutes are not immoral, lazy, insane, or evil that should be despised or punished on sight. Probably most prostitutes need saving because they have been forced into prostitution, just like most workers doing dangerous menial jobs need saving too. But there will be those quite at peace at being prostitutes, and in a future more enlightened society, they should be treated with respect just like anyone else.(erik)
