How did you feel about using digital video as a way to craft and tell your story?
I think using digital video was an amazing tool to tell my story. Initially I was intimidated by the idea but quickly adapted to the process because I felt part of something, connected. I loved learning about the different layers of using the tools and also the layers of expressing my story. This experience was one of the highlights of my life. I was truly vulnerable, naked, and so free to be who I am. Multimedia is an amazing tool and when used in this format so informative and rich.
What do you think is the power of telling stories through this method?
This method is very empowering. The entire process of creating your story and learning the technical use of the tools was very liberating. My brain processed the information both artistically and critically. The environment was also very shared and a free space to create.
Who have you shared your story with? What responses have you received?
I have only shared my story with the group that I trained with – because I just finished it a couple of weeks ago. Through the sharing circle and individual aides my response and feed-back was great.
In what ways has the process of both creating and sharing your digital story contributed to change in you? (if it has ...)
This experience has been so challenging, laborious, and liberating. I was able to use my voice to tell my story, and that was very empowering and scary. The individual story is so important when describing the collective story.
Do you it's important to connect survivors globally, and how useful is digital storytelling in this?
This is a unique and beautiful way to connect global survivors. Our stories are so important and reflective of the world we share. This is a great medium to reach a broad and mass community who may have issues accessing resources or actively participating in change.
Is there anything else you'd like to express, about your story, about the process of making it...etc?
Making my story was a labor of love and complete honesty. It was painful to recount some memories, but it was healing and necessary. I am confident to tell my stories and recognize the rich complexity in the power of listening to all stories. We are all connected.
